1. What are the minimum system requirements to successfully install and work with the NIIT ICR@Home application?


1.  Hardware device can be a laptop, netbook or a desktop computer.
1.  Operating System: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7.
2.  CPU: Processor:  1.66 GHz or higher.
2.  Internet Explorer 7.0 or above
3.  RAM: Minimum 2GB.
3.  Any Antivirus software (This is to save computer and application from viruses)
4.  Hard Disk: 10 GB of free hard disk space in the drive in which installation have to happen.
4.  Acrobat Reader
5.  DVD Reader.
5.  Supporting Software (available with the ICR@Home installation media) and gets installed automatically).
6.  Internet Connection with minimum of 512 Kbps.
7.  Configured Ethernet/Network Card (Internal / External).
8.  Speakers or Headphones.
9.  Audio Driver setup (if you able to listen to songs on PC, that means it is installed and working).

2. I am getting the error message "Internet connection not found" while running application or activating the device. How do I resolve this?


Check your Internet connection. Make sure it is working. This error may occur when Bluetooth is enabled. Disable it by following these steps: Go to the Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN settings. Uncheck all the check boxes and click Try again.

3. I am getting error message "Application can't run / install .NET framework" while installing this application How do I resolve this?


Check if .NET version 4.0 is installed by following these steps: Go to the Control Panel -> Program and Features -> Check if .NET Framework 4.0 version is installed. If not, install the same by following steps given under 'ICR@Home Installation'.

4. What are the different types of devices on which ICR@Home can be installed?


ICR@Home application can be installed on Desktop, Laptop & Netbook.

5. Can I install ICR@Home on Linux or MAC?


No. ICR@Home can be installed only on the Microsoft Windows platform.

6. I am getting "Unhandled Exception error". How to proceed?


Ensure that you run ICR@Home application as Windows Administrator. In case of Windows 7, you can right-click on the application icon and select 'Run As Administrator'.

7. I am getting this message "Internet connection not found" while downloading the assessment. How do I resolve this?


Check your Internet connection. If you are working on a proxy server in a corporate/intranet network, make sure all the servers and socket details are correct.

8. How do I get my learning content back if I have re-installed the application?


You have to import the content again from the installation media. The steps to import the content are specified under the 'Content Import' section.

9. What happens if I delete the folders or tamper with any of the files?


The ICR@Home application will get corrupt if any system files or folders are tampered with. Do not delete any files or folders. In case the application stops functioning because of changes in files or folders, you need to re-install the ICR@Home application.

10. What should I do if I cannot see my LAN card on the network adapters list?


Re-install the LAN card driver and ensure that the same is configured properly.

11. The content page does not show up even when the ICR@Home is running. What should I do?


Uninstall the ICR@Home. Re-install and point it to a different folder. Delete existing folder.

12. What do I do if the ICR@Home doesn't connect to server/internet?


Check your Internet connection. Make sure it is working. This error may also occur when Bluetooth is enabled. Disable the Bluetooth by following these steps: Go to the Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN settings. Uncheck all the check boxes and click Try again.

13. What happens to the software if the desktop icon gets deleted?


Nothing happens until you uninstall. The icon can be brought back by going to Start -> Program Files -> ICR@Home, right-clicking on the icon and selecting 'Send to desktop'.

14. I am trying to login, but I receive the error message "You have not synched/replicated your data in last 7 days. Please connect with internet and then re-login into application." What shall I do?


Logout from the ICR@Home application. Connect the system to the Internet and then login again.

15. I want to install my ICR@Home application on another computer. What do I do?


You have to first uninstall current application and de-activate ICR@Home from the existing computer. The steps of uninstallation and de-activation are given under section 'ICR@Home Installation' on page no. 33 of ICR@Home Installation Manual.

17. My activity is not running, what shall I do?


Ensure that audio driver is installed on your computer.

18. I am not able to see my result in the assessment summary report which I had appeared last time. What do I do?


If your computer is connected to the Internet, please login to the ICR@Home application. All the results and data are replicated on to the portal website. You can check your result in the Assessment summary report available on the website/portal.

19. I am unable to view/run multimedia content on my computer. What shall I do?


Re-install/install Flash player available in the 'supporting software' folder on the client installer CD. Follow the steps given in Appendix A of ICR@Home Installation Manual.

20. When I clicked 'StudentActivationDevice.exe', I got the error "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click OK to terminate the Program. " What shall I do next?


Install .NET framework 3.5 from the Supporting Software or download it from the web portal 'http://school2home.niitnguru.com/portal'. The steps of installation of .NET Framework 3.5 is mentioned on Section 3.2 Device Activation of ICR@Home Installation Manual.

21. My computer has crashed/ lost. What shall I do?


Deactivate the Device from the web portal using Parent Login. The steps to deactivate are mentioned in points 11 to 16 under 'ICR@Home Uninstallation '. After deactivation of device from the web portal, contact your school ADC to deactivate it .

22. What are the supporting software applications for ICR@Home?


The supporting software applications are used for installation of the ICR@Home application. To download them,  click here

23. When I install ICR@Home, I get the error message ?The advertised application will not be installed because it might be unsafe. Contact your administrator to change the installation user interface option of the package to basic?. What shall I do?


You probably are trying to install the application on a computer that does not provide full control over the installations. This normally happens when Group Policy is in use.

Group Policy is a set of rules which control the working environment of user accounts and computer accounts. Group Policy provides the centralized management and configuration of operating systems, applications and users' settings in an Active Directory environment. In other words, Group Policy in part controls what users can and can't do on a computer system.

In that situation, if a user tries to install ICR@Home, they will see this message

The Solution

The solution is to install the software from the command line as follows.

Click on the Start menu at the bottom left of the screen and click on the Run... option. If you cannot see the Run option, go to Start->All Programs->Accessories->Run

This should display the Run dialog box. type cmd and press OK

That should display a dialog box with a black background. Make a note of the folder the dialog is showing. it will be something like c:\users\ Move the downloaded ICR@Home.msi file to the folder that is displayed in the dialog box or alternatively, download the msi file again and save it to that folder. In the dialog box type the following and press Return msiexec /qb /I ICR@Home.msi

24. When I am trying to install Adobe Flash player, I am getting f ollowing error message :

What shall I do?


If you have already installed a specific version of Flash Player , you will be prevented from installing an earlier version. For example, if you installed Flash Player and tried to install version, then the installation will fail. In some versions, the following error message is displayed:

"The version of Adobe Flash Player ActiveX that you are trying to install is not the most current version".

Download the uninstaller for Flash Player from here and execute it. After successful execution of uninstaller, re-install Adobe Flash player.

25. I have uninstalled ICR@Home, and I am trying to deactivate my computer. I am getting the error message "Uninstall ICR@Home Application to proceed Deactivation". What shall I do?


Few temporary files that are used by ICR@Home may be in use. They are not deleted by ICR@Home and get ignored. To remove temporary files, download CleanUp.

26. When I login to ICR@Home, I get the error message "Please contact to your school". What shall I do?


This message comes if your school ICR has expired contact to your ADC or Support Person to update school ICR. Once School ICR is updated follow the process given below:

1. Download “ICR@Home Expiry Extension Utility.zip” from here.

2. Extract it to your system.

3. After extraction is complete,open the folder ICR@Home Expiry Extension Utility.Following window appears.Double click on ICR@Home_Extension_Utility_3.0.

4. Following window appears. Enter the details and click on ‘Submit’.

5. Following message appears. Click on ‘Yes’.

6. After some time following message appears. Click on ‘OK’.

7. Now Login into ICR@Home.

27. While I imports content, after some time I gets error message "Problem while importing content". What shall I do?


Content contains exe. Most antivirus like Avast , Nortan etc. blocks some exe's. before importing content disable your antivirus and then start importing them

28. When I exceute StudentActivationDevice.exe, I get the error message "unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application.". What shall I do?


This message comes if your system does not have .net framework 3.5 installed.

1. Download “Student Activation Device v1.1.zip” from here.

2. Extract it to your system.

3. Once extraction is complete,open the folder Student Activation Device v1.1. Following window appears.Double click on StudentActivationDevice v1.1.exe file. Enter your details to activate your device.
